Exclusivity with Advertlets.

After a few weeks of discussion, i finally finalized all the details, queries and concerns of my blog/me being featured on Advertlets Titans. I'm quite thrilled and honored to be placed alongside my friends Nathaniel and Felicia.

This is what Sc penned, for me, to be place in the feature shown below.
"Seen his posters at train stations lately? Featuring Ryan's media experience, his thoughts on life, movies, music and school in his blog exclusive! Get to know him! Leave a comment!"

Why did i sign up / Why i like Advertlets?
I first heard about Advertlets from Nathaniel early this year but had never gotten down to engaging their services until slightly later whenl told me about how impressed he was with the quick and sincere response of Josh Lim from Advertlets when a complication earlier this year caused the Advertlets domain to expire, resulting in the redirection of blogs to a placeholder page. Upon hearing that, i was impressed, and swayed. I decided to sign up with them, and went on to run their ads on my blog. It was until last month did i read about the Adverlets Titan widget that i started exchanging emails with the Advertlets support team to find out more about it. I was highly satisfied with the quick response of the relevant personnel from that i decided to give them exclusivity for a minimum of 6 months. If all goes well, i'm looking at giving them long term exclusivity.

What i hope to get from Advertlets?
Given that I'm currently being featured in the Advertlets Titan Widget along with 2 of my friends in the media industry - Nathaniel and Felicia, i hope that my number of unique visitors will soar even further. After this featured period, I'm hoping the number of daily hits would maintain, if not increase. That, would naturally translate to an increased in earnings. Besides that, i'm looking forward to doing Advertorials for Advertlets as it gives me an opportunity to do write ups for a product/service and a chance to showcase my flare for writing. With that in mind, I foresee an amiable long term exclusive relationship with Advertlets.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

This is a follow-up entry on my Bartending project with Nuffnang 2 weeks back. If have yet to read my entry, you can read it HERE. I realised i haven't thanked Cherie and Huiwen proper for their support on that day (even though it's part of their job requirement). So anyway, i made a trip down to collect my prize money and sponsored camera on Wednesday. Sparing you guys from the "oohs" and "ahhs", one of the gifts, the promised camera turned out to be a sleek 8.1 megapixel Casio Exilim Z80.

Ramblings:
I watched so many (free) movies recently that i'm gonna drop dead if i were to explode with excitement over every single one. That said, do check out my movie ratings for this year HERE.

Anyway, The music at MOS was pretty trashy on Wednesday and the martinis' at Lunar sucked. I attended the gala premiere of 'Hancock' with John yesterday and watched 'Wanted' with Eric and ZG before clubbing on Wed. That's pretty much my life for the past few days, photos to come at a later time. The next few days would be packed with *ahem* tuition.

On Bartending and Concoction.

'Layered' Drink.

In conjunction with SPRING Singapore and Restaurant Association of Singapore, Nuffnang launched the "A day on the Job in the F&B industy" program which gave me the chance to experience working as a bartender at Zouk last week. Upon reaching at 8pm, i met up briefly with Cherie and Huiwen from Nuffnang before being ushered by Zouk's Operations Manager to the Bar Manager who got me my uniform to look my part. After putting on the shirt/apron and my name tag, i was officially the 'guest bartender' for that night.

Learning from Wesley.

I was assigned to learn the ropes from Wesley at the WineBar. He and some others gave me an insight of the job. Being a bartender, besides having confidence, also requires an indepth knowledge of what drinks the bar has to offer in order to effectively suggest drinks for indecisive customers.

'Absolut Mango White Choc Martini'

For basic knowledge, I was introduced to the different categories of alcoholic drinks, consisting of 'Martinis', 'Shooters', 'House Specials', 'Classic/Sparkling Cocktails' and 'Party Drinks' (shots). They are most often stemmed from the seven 'House Pours' - 'Vodka', 'Gin', 'Tequila', 'Rum', 'Whisky', 'Brandy' and 'Bourbon'. Upon learning some of their characteristics, it became clear why some drinks blend better than others when mixed with juices. Thereafter, i was told the different 'Methods' of preparation. They consist of 'shaking', 'build in', 'blended' and 'layered'. I had a 'hands-on' on the first two and it was relatively easy after a while, even thou i still required help from the recipe and the other bartenders.

Post-preparation, there is still the knowledge of what kinds of glasses and garnish to use. Some are self-explanatory like 'Martini', 'Beer', 'Wine', 'Champagne Flute' and 'Shots' glasses while others require knowledge (again). They are the 'Tall Glass'(10 oz), 'Rock Glass'(8 oz), 'Balloon' glasses and some others.

At midnight, i went over to Velvet Underground where a party event was in progress. Life behind the bar counter was bustling. It was at Velvet where Wesley showed me the other two preparation methods (layered and blended). I was impressed at how meticulous you have to be at while preparing a 'layered' drink so that the layers actually show. Nearing 3am, he brought me around all the bars in Zouk, Phuture, Velvet to ensure everything was locked and in place. It was weird seeing a fully lit Zouk and Phuture but that's besides the point. Another bartender then showed me the switching off of the beer supply prior to closing.

On the whole, even though it's only one day of experiencing this job, I realised that being a bartender is not easy. Besides having to have knowledge of ALL the available concoctions and knowing how to prepare them, a bartender also has to exude confidence when dealing with guests. They also need to be a good listener to people's problems and offering advice and suggestions of drinks based on their preferences. It's was a great bartending experience for me, at one of the leading night spots in Singapore.

The Night Safari.

This is my first proper entry in awhile.. In conjunction with the 'Family's Day Out' celebration, Nuffnang sponsored me (and my family) tickets to the Singapore Night Safari. In return, I'm supposed to dedicate an entry to this outing.

Cousins.

We arrived at the Night Safari slightly past 7 and immediately made a beeline for the ticketing booth after realising a large crowd was swarming in at the same time. We carried out the nights itinerary as planned, starting with the walking of the 3 main trails - Forest Giants Trail, Leopards Trail and Fishing Cat Trail. Along these trails were a large number of animal species that you do not usually see at the Zoo. One of the more memorable ones would be the Fruit Bats enclosure. The key that made that particular visit special for us would be the fact that we actually entered the Fruit Bats enclosure and are actually inches away from these flying mammals.

After completing all 3 trails, we watched the "Creatures of the Night" Show. The emcee gave an impressive and entertaining delivery throughout the entire 30 minutes show. There was laughter, enthusiastic clapping and more laughter.

Wolves at the Show.

The Tram ride was the last part of our itinerary. It was the most relaxing one too. With the cool breeze blowing softly on our faces, we enjoyed the company of the animals (and their smell), the nature and the voice of our guide. Several species could only be seen if you take the tram ride, something which i found out on my previous visit so i insisted a ride this time round. On the whole, it was a tiring but fun-filled event, perfect for a little bonding session with your family. So if you are reading this, hurry bring your entire family down to the Night Safari this school holidays.
