'12 Lotus' - A Review.

I attend the Gala Premiere on Sunday and gave a small interview to The Straits Times reporter yesterday about how i feel about the film. Photos/Articles will be posted in due course but lets return to the focus, the film.

I was full of anticipation for this film, partly due to how much i liked '881' last year. Another reason was because Stefanie Sun made a guest appearance in the first few minutes of the film, phenomenal. Then again, it's expected that people compare it to '881', the only other film of the same genre, same cast and same director. While i rated '881' 4/5, '12 Lotus' i gave a 3/5 rating. Here's what i feel.

The first half of the show was well timed, the plot was properly developed, more interesting and less draggy. Mindee (Ong) gave an excellent performance (as always). Regardless of whether it's on stage performing, or when doing the more emotional scenes, her versatility as a good actress is exemplified in each case.

Seriously, i would have liked the film a bit more if it ended after the first half. The second half was a little draggy, and a bit cut off from the first half. There were too many scenes that i felt added little or no value to the plot. Saving grace for the second half of the show? Liu Ling Ling's acting.

On the whole, i feel it's a rather different show from it's predecessor. I guess expectations do play a part. With little expectations, '881' became a big hit. With expectations, '12 Lotus' pales in comparison. Points to ponder, was the film trying to bring across any message?
